GO SPARKLING by Tsunan Sake Brewery Wins “Good Design Award” at Milano Sake Challenge 2025

Tsunan Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tsunan-machi, Nakauonuma-gun, Niigata Prefecture; President: Kengo Suzuki) is proud to announce that its sparkling sake GO SPARKLING has been awarded the Good Design Award at the Milano Sake Challenge 2025 held in Milan, Italy.

GO SPARKLING combines a refreshing effervescence with a sophisticated bottle design, offering a new sensory experience in sake enjoyment. During the evaluation by sommeliers and designers, it was highly praised for being “minimal yet contemporary” and for its “striking presence that shines in everyday settings.” The panel particularly noted its strong design appeal for the European market.

Judges were impressed by the elegance of the bottle’s shape and color palette, and the Japanese labeling was received positively as an “added value” or “neutral element.” While some mentioned that the Japanese identity appeared “slightly understated,” this approachable global style was ultimately considered one of its strengths.

In Europe, GO SPARKLING is expected to be priced around €10–€20, with potential distribution across supermarkets, wine shops, and designer boutiques. This recognition positions GO SPARKLING as a lifestyle-forward sake poised to expand its presence in the global market.

Our Concept of Terroir
The term terroir—originally French for “land”—has been widely used in the wine world and is now embraced in sake brewing. It refers to the unique character born from the interplay of climate, soil, water, and the local community’s culture and wisdom—elements that cannot be replicated by ingredients or techniques alone. Tsunan Sake Brewery’s use of Uonuma-grown Koshihikari rice, nurtured by the snowy climate and pristine water of Tsunan, is a true expression of terroir.

About Tsunan Sake Brewery
Tsunan Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. is located in Tsunan-machi, one of Japan’s heaviest snowfall regions. The brewery crafts sake using local rice varieties such as “Gohyakumangoku” and “Uonuma Koshihikari,” blending tradition with innovation. In 2025, the brewery won the Niigata Governor’s Award (First Place) at the Echigo-style Sake Brewing Technology Championship.
