“つなん TSUNAN” Sake Wins a Prize at the The Annual Japan Sake Awards (NRIB) 2023

Tsunan Sake Brewery recognized for brewing excellence at world’s most prestigious blind tasting boards competition.

Tsunan, Niigata (May 24th, 2023) — Tsunan sake brewery, the maker of the “つなん TSUNAN” was awarded at the 2023 annual japan sake awards (NRIB) competition.

This year, each sake were tasted by sake experts from NRIB, National Tax Agency and prefectural research centers, and 394 Prize Winners, 218 Gold Medals(those recognized as the very best among the prize winners)were awarded.

“Tsunan” are terroir sake series, brewed by local people with community rice and water. With the aim of coexistence with forests and animals, the new logo reflects Japanese antelopes (Capricornis crispus), one of our sakagura guests. “Tsunan” represents its purity and perfection. The first lineup consists of 4 types of sake: Haku, Beni, Ai, and Kogane.

NRIBー Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association

The Annual Japan Sake Awards 2023 were held under the joint auspices of the National Research Institute of Brewing (NRIB) and the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association (JSS). This year marks the 111th Annual Japan Sake Awards, which were first held in 1911.


For this contest, a nationwide investigation of manufactured sake was conducted with the aim of clarifying the current manufacturing technology and trends in order to contribute to the improvement of sake quality and to enhance public awareness of sake. This is the only one national contest of sake, and we believe that these awards contribute to improvements in manufacturing technology and quality of sake.
